Developments in Traffic Management
August 26, 2020
At AKFS we pride ourselves in the design and build quality of the Drop & Go® Traffic Management vehicles; from its incarnation back in 2014 to where it has evolved today with new specifications and improved designs.
In late 2019, our Product Specialist, Stephen Phillips engaged with Duncan Crome, Managing Director of Priority TM, who are a reputable Traffic Management company in Chelmsford, to join us in engineering a revised design to combat the narrow streets and width restrictions in our City Centres; especially in the Capital where TM companies are issued fines whilst going about their business.
Our Product Specialist sat down with Duncan and his management team at Priority TM, and between them they created a concept that would work for the industry whilst retaining the original design of the Drop & Go®. August 2020 has seen the first 3 Drop & Go® Urban variants delivered to Priority TM ready to hit the streets with the narrower body while maintaining the high payload the Drop & Go® offers.
The Urban Drop & Go® is now an addition to the standard Drop & Go® Low Floor Traffic Management Vehicle range and comes with our rear Spring Assisted Tail Gate with the option of the Hinged LP13 that was launched by AKFS on the Drop & Go® in 2019.
Duncan Crome from Priority TM said:
“The Drop & Go® are the perfect TM vehicle for reducing the risk of working at heights and for high speed works, but we needed to overcome the restrictions due to the body widths.
It has been great being able to discuss our requirements with a receptive and knowledgeable design team at AKFS to come up with this urban/narrow variation.
These vehicles will be put through their paces on heavily congested urban roads and high speed environments but they can now also be used on narrow country lanes where the original version was limited.”
Message from our MD Ian Knight:
“The Drop & Go® Urban is an excellent example of the Built Without Compromise approach from the AKFS team, collaborating with a customer to manufacture a narrower vehicle to overcome some of the issues they faced when working in an inner city environment. We are delighted with the outcome of the project and thank Duncan Crome from Priority Tm for their business.”
