Over the Rainbow

After six weeks, of lockdown at the beginning of May the Management team of AKFS were able to review the government health & safety guidelines and with much hand washing plus a shift system, the company found a way that it could safely return to doing what it does best – building light commercial vehicles for a range of market sectors including recovery and logistics. It was a dark time at the end of March when with a full order book AKFS had to close its two manufacturing facilities in Clay Cross, & Andover, so everybody was thankful when they were able to finally open the doors again, at the beginning of May.

Since opening, Ian Knight, Managing Director of AKFS has been resourceful when challenged with a Coronavirus problem, from handing over keys to customers on a 2-metre pole to using one of the light commercial vehicles to stay in overnight when no hotels were open. As well as Ian, the staff at AKFS have adapted and embraced the changes that have been necessary to continue to run the business safely.

Along with AKFS finding new ways of working many of AKFS customers are also having to adapt. AKFS have had an increase in the number of enquiries for single car transporters from motor dealers, who are faced with finding safe ways of handing over or delivering vehicles.

​

One of the very first vehicles delivered after returning was an <a href="<https://www.advanced-kfs.co.uk/vehicle/ultra-car-transporter/>">Ultra® car transporter</a> to Cars 4 Less. It was an uplifting event after 6 weeks of no deliveries and felt like the first “on the other side” moment. No better way to be back at work than to be delivering vehicles to customers.

Cars 4 Less took delivery of the Ultra® to enable them to offer contactless delivery of used cars within a 100-mile radius. With their customers finding it difficult to get out and about, they wanted to carry on providing cars to customers as safely and quickly as possible.

Ian unfortunately has not been staying so safe since we returned to work. Several weeks ago he crashed his pushbike and met with the tarmac at 25mph resulting in a broken his collar bone and 4 ribs. Despite the pain he was still telling the ambulance crew about low floor vehicles on his way to hospital. For a short time, Ian is now grounded due to his reduced lung function. We wish him a speedy recovery and ask that he sticks to 4 or more wheels over the coming months and really does focus on staying safe!
